11 injured in Little River boat party shooting

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) — Eleven people were injured after an altercation on a charter boat led to a shooting, according to officials.

Horry County police responded to the shooting on Watson Avenue Sunday night around 9:30.

“I have never seen anything like this before, I mean, I was coming back from work, and you know the police presence down there down south was very heavy, but this right here it was outrageous. It was insane. It’s probably the craziest thing I’ve ever seen in my life,” said Carson Almond, Harbourgate Marina resident.

Police said 10 people were shot, and one has an “unknown non-gunfire-related injury.” They said the worst of the injured are in critical condition but are stable.

The shooting was “an isolated event that resulted from an altercation during a private Memorial Day weekend gathering on a charter boat,” according to police.

“There were drones, and there was a breached boat down here, heavy police presence. They were going through all the condos, everything. Going down through all the slips looking for somewhere or something,” said Almond.

Detectives are working to identify who is responsible for the shooting.

According to Horry County Police Dept. spokesperson Mikayla Moskov, the incident is classified as no risk to the community because it is believed to be an isolated incident among specific parties.

Moskov said the boat was docked at the marina at the time of the altercation occurred, and then the shooting. There were people on the boat and on the dock, according to Moskov.

Moskov said there were 124 people in the area of the shooting around the time the incident occurred.
