It’s not in Detroit this year, but the 2025 NFL Draft is still bringing a lot of noise.
With the No. 28 pick in the first round, the Detroit Lions selected Ohio State defensive tackle Tyleik Williams. The Lions had the No. 29 pick in the first round of the 2024 draft, and traded up to No. 24 and draft cornerback Terrion Arnold.
The Tennessee Titans selected Miami quarterback Cam Ward with the first overall pick in the 2025 draft, who many experts (including our own Dave Birkett) expected them to select.
The Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars made a blockbuster trade early on, with the Jaguars trading up to the No. 2 pick and the Browns sliding down to the No. 5 pick. Jacksonville used the pick to select Colorado two-way star and 2024 Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter.
In somewhat of a surprise, Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders was not taken in the first round. Some analysts thought he could go as high as No. 9 to the New Orleans Saints, though they used their pick on Texas offensive lineman Kelvin Banks Jr.

Detroit native (and former Michigan State Spartan) Derrick Harmon, a defensive tackle from Oregon, was selected 21st overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers. West Bloomfield native Maxwell Hairston, a cornerback from Kentucky, went 30th overall to the Buffalo Bills.
Many experts believed four Michigan Wolverines would be first-round picks, but only three were selected: defensive tackle Mason Graham (No. 5 to Cleveland), tight end Colston Loveland (No. 10 to Chicago) and defensive tackle Kenneth Grant (No. 13 to Dallas).
In one late surprise, the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles – who faced each other in this year’s Super Bowl – swapped the last two picks of the first round.
Also announced during the draft: the NFL schedule reveal will take place on Wednesday, May 14, broadcasted on NFL Network starting at 8 p.m.
