The San Francisco Giants have won five straight games, which matches their best winning streak last year … and that didn’t occur until late September. They’ll go for six straight, as well as their third series win to open the year, when they host the Seattle Mariners tonight at Oracle Park.
Taking the mound for the Giants is lefty Robbie Ray, who came to San Francisco before last season in a trade with the Mariners team that he’s facing off against. Ray only made seven starts last year after returning from Tommy John surgery, and had the typical struggles associated with someone doing that. He finished with a 3-2 record, but a 4.70 ERA and a 4.96 FIP, with 43 strikeouts against 15 walks in 30.2 innings. He had a phenomenal Spring Training, and while the stat line in his 2025 debut isn’t good — he gave up three earned runs in 5.1 innings — he very much impressed. Ray was perfect through five innings against the Cincinnati Reds, before everything unravelled in the sixth.
For the Mariners, it’s young right-hander Bryce Miller, who takes the mound for the second time this season. Miller, a 26-year old in his third season, established himself as one of the shining stars of Seattle’s rotation — which is one of the best in baseball — last season. He made 31 starts and finished with a 12-8 record, a 2.94 ERA, and a 3.58 FIP, with 171 strikeouts to 45 walks in 180.1 innings. He gave up three runs in 5.2 innings against the Athletics in his season debut.
Enjoy the game, Giants fans!
