NEW YORK (PIX11) – Showers and thunderstorms are expected to drench New York and New Jersey on Monday, possibly bringing damaging winds, hail and flooding to the tri-state area.
Here’s what you need to know to prepare for the storms:
Timing
Storms will develop in the mid to late afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. Wet weather will start around 4 p.m. and end at 2 a.m., meteorologists said.
Tuesday will be sunny with highs in the upper-50s. Wind gusts as high as 30 mph are possible, according to the NWS.

Severity
New York City may possibly see scattered, severe storms, meteorologists said. Hail and damaging wind gusts up to nearly 25 mph are also expected.
Parts of Long Island’s Suffolk County have an isolated severe storm risk, according to the NWS.
Accumulation
Some areas could see 1 to 2 inches of rainfall, meteorologists said.
