‘Game of Thrones’ Fans Rejoice as Colossal Biosciences De-Extincts The Dire Wolf, Backed by Star-Studded Investors

Colossal Biosciences, the pioneering de-extinction company, has achieved a groundbreaking feat: resurrecting the dire wolf, the legendary creature featured in the hit HBO series Game of Thrones.

This marks the world’s first successful de-extinction of an animal, bringing back a species extinct for over 12,500 years. The birth of three healthy dire wolves signifies a significant advancement in Colossal’s de-extinction technologies, paving the way for the potential return of other extinct species.

The company also successfully birthed two litters of cloned red wolves – the world’s most endangered wolf – using innovative non-invasive blood cloning techniques that Colossal developed through its work on the dire wolves. These achievements highlight the potential of de-extinction efforts to support conservation and combat the growing biodiversity crisis.

Colossal’s work has attracted a star-studded roster of celebrity supporters, including Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson, celeb Paris Hilton, former NFL star Tom Brady, and, notably, Sophie Turner, who played Sansa Stark in GoT.

The birth of three healthy dire wolves signifies a significant advancement in Colossal’s de-extinction technologies.

“Our team took DNA from a 13,000-year-old tooth and a 72,000-year-old skull and made healthy dire wolf puppies. It was once said, ‘Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.’ Today, our team gets to unveil some of the magic they are working on and its broader impact on conservation,” Colossal Biosciences founder and CEO Ben Lamm shared with SPIN.

Game of Thrones creator, author, and Colossal Investor and Cultural Advisor George R.R. Martin said, “Many people view dire wolves as mythical creatures that only exist in a fantasy world, but in reality, they have a rich history of contributing to the American ecosystem.”

He continued, “I get the luxury to write about magic, but Ben and Colossal have created magic by bringing these majestic beasts back to our world.”

The dire wolves, named Romulus, Remus, and Khaleesi, along with the red wolf pups, are thriving in a 2,000+ acre secure ecological preserve certified by the American Humane Society.
