DILG: Russian vlogger won’t be deported

MANILA, Philippines — Russian-American vlogger Vitaly Zdorovetskiy will not be deported and will remain in the custody of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) until all the criminal charges filed against him are resolved, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said yesterday.

“Five cases will be filed against Zdorovetskiy before the Taguig prosecutor’s office,” DOJ Secretary Jonvic Remulla said.

Zdorovetskiy, 33, is facing three counts of unjust vexation in relation to the Cybercrime Prevention Act, two cases of theft and a complaint for attempted theft.

Remulla said the arrest of Zdorovetskiy should serve as a warning to other foreigners against harassing and disrespecting Filipinos.

Remulla presented Zdorovetskiy at a press conference in Quezon City where videos posted by the vlogger on social media were shown.

“Vitaly was whispering that these videos were fake. He will be placed in a regular BI detention facility. He will eat what regular inmates eat. In other words, no special treatment. We will make sure all the cases to be filed against him will be finished and justice will be given to our fellow Filipinos,” Remulla said.

Last week, immigration and police personnel arrested Zdorovetskiy in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig for allegedly harassing Filipinos.

Four security guards and a restaurant owner filed the complaints against the vlogger.
