Jets release wide receiver Davante Adams after no trade materializes

The Jets traded a conditional third-round pick to the Las Vegas Raiders for Adams last October, hoping that the last-gasp move could spur New York following its 2-4 start. Adams did a lot of heavy lifting, catching 67 passes for 854 yards (12.7-yard average) and seven touchdowns in his 11 games in New York. But the move couldn’t rescue the Jets from another lost season, as they finished 5-12.

Adams checks in at No. 10 on NFL.com’s Top 101 free agents list, just ahead of Bills wide receiver Amari Cooper and is free to sign with a new team ahead of the start of the new league year on March 12.

A three-time All-Pro and six-time Pro Bowler, Adams has totaled 957 receptions for 11,844 yards (12.4 average) and 103 TDs in 164 games (157 starts) over 12 NFL seasons with the Packers, Raiders and Jets.
