Red Flag Warning issued Friday for Shawnee County

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – With extreme fire danger caused by dry and windy conditions, the National Weather Service on Friday issued a Red Flag Warning for Shawnee County and much of northeast Kansas.

The warning is in effect frorm 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday for the Topeka and northeast Kansas area.

The National Weather Service says northwest winds sustained at 12 to 22 mph are likely, with gusts of up to 35 mph north of Interstate 70.

Gusts between 25 and 30 mph south of Interstate 70 also are expected.

With the humidity as low as 19 percent, any fire that develops could catch and spread quickly, National Weather Service officials said. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
