Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Fictional Characters) for Thursday, April 17, 2025 (Season 41, Game 139):
This character’s efforts in Africa to end an epidemic killing monkeys inspired Jane Goodall to do something similar
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:
Michelle Dolinski, a physics professor from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Steven Hoying, an attorney-at-law from Hilliard, Ohio
Andrew Hayes, a law student originally from Tupelo, Mississippi (6-day total: $137,804)
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
After his most dominant win to date on yesterday’s show, coming one correct response away from a $30,000 Coryat score, Andrew Hayes enters today’s game as a 6-day champion. He faces off against Ohio’s Steven Hoying and Philadelphia’s Michelle Dolinski.
Today’s Double Jeopardy round contains a CANADIAN LAKES category. One thing I’m looking forward to is seeing how our contestants fare on that category. Also, I’m reasonably sure that Newfoundland and Labrador doesn’t really have much in the way of prominent lakes, so at least Ken won’t mispronounce “Newfoundland” again.

When she was growing up, there were not that many female scientists could serve as an inspiration for Jane Goodall. However, one of the stories she was inspired by was Hugh Lofting’s The Story of Doctor Dolittle, in which the fictional doctor is sent to Africa to cure a monkey epidemic. Edgar Rice Burroughs’s Tarzan works also served as an inspiration to Goodall, who dreamed of working in Africa.

Andy’s Thoughts:
- I don’t 100% hate Michelle’s choice to go to MYTHOLOGY $400 with both Daily Doubles still out, but it may have been worth exhausting the higher values of the other academic categories first.
- No wagering suggestions will be posted due to today’s game being a runaway.
- Today’s box score will be linked to when posted by the show.
