Tom Holland Had an Emphatic 4-Word Statement Before Being Cast as ‘Spider-Man’

Tom Holland has had multiple stellar performances throughout his acting career, a statement that stands especially true regarding his time as Spider-Man. Holland, who’s played the role of Peter Parker since 2016, has starred as the popular superhero in five films, and will be in at least one, if not two, more by the end of 2026.

While the 28-year-old had plenty of competition during the audition process, he didn’t lack confidence in his ability to land the role.

During a recent interview, a fellow Marvel actor, Jon Bernthal, who plays Punisher, explained how running lines for Spider-Man with Holland played out many years ago.

When asked by IMDB if Bernthal knew Holland would be the perfect Spider-Man “right away,” the 48-year-old actor gave a great response.

“He knew, he knew, I mean he knew,” Bernthal said. “… He’s the best, he is the best.”

Bernthal explained that Holland told him he was going to get the role ahead of the audition.

“He had such drive that, you know, young kid, he was like ‘I am gonna get this,'” Bernthal continued.

The Punisher star joked that he replied, “I don’t know, a lot of people probably want it, buddy.”

Bernthal had nothing but high praise for Holland, who he said also ran lines for Punisher with him while the two filmed Pilgrimage together.

Holland’s tenure as Spider-Man has included performances in: Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home. He’ll also reprise the role in the 2026 film Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and there are rumors he’ll be in Avengers: Doomsday.

Whether Holland ultimately proves a part of Doomsday will be a noteworthy storyline, but fan speculation has remained high since the initial cast list for the film was released.
