The Los Angeles Lakers and Rob Pelinka have agreed to a contract extension for him that keeps him in Los Angeles long-term. With this extension Pelinka gains the title of president of basketball operations as well as his title of general manager. With this extension, the Lakers are putting full faith behind Pelinka to lead them into their future, led by Luka Doncic.
Pelinka’s Lakers tenure has been full of success throughout. He was the architect behind the 2020 Lakers title team, building a well balanced team behind stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Pelinka also hired Lakers head coach JJ Redick last offseason, and Redick has led LA to a 50-32 record in his first season as head coach, and the third seed as well. Pelinka’s most notable achievement this season was trading for 26 year old superstar Luka Doncic. Pelinka is no doubt aided by the allure of Los Angeles and the Lakers franchise, but he still went out and completed these moves, and has the success to show for it. With Los Angeles having future assets ready, along with the young phenom Doncic in tow, Pelinka will have more than he needs to build another contending team in LA in the future.
