The aforementioned East Coast Gotham FC come into this match looking to build on their latest win over NC Courage. For the first time all season, they were able to score more than a single goal, as they thumped the Courage 3-1 in what was also their most dominating performance of the season. North Carolina are one of just two teams left who are winless to start the new NWSL campaign, so its hard to tell if Gotham are starting to hit their stride, or if they just got the right opponent at the right time. Regardless, so much of sports is confidence and momentum, and right now Gotham have plenty of both.

Thankfully, Angel City also come into this match with plenty of momentum, tons of confidence, and the advantage of a home crowd on a Friday night. You may not have heard, but Angel City are currently unbeaten in the NWSL, and have most recently won two games running. Just as important as results, is how the team has looked, and it’s been really great to see. The young talent has been put on full display to start this season, and they have not disappointed. After getting her first goal at home against Seattle Reign, LA Forward Riley Tiernan was able to bag another, this one from range, against Houston Dash in the team’s latest win. Add that to another Alyssa Thompson masterclass and goal, and it’s looking like one of the more dangerous one-two punches in the league growing right before our eyes.

As the team lean into the young talent, with a new head coach announced, new ownership backing them, now would be the perfect time to turn the tides on Gotham FC, who have been dominant in this matchup so far. In seven meetings, the East Coast side has won five, come out even with LA once, with Angel City’s lone win coming way back in 2022, the inaugural season. They can start shifting that record tonight, with a prime opportunity to not just remain unbeaten, but an opportunity to continue building on the start to the season. A chance to let the play really reflect the results.
