Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.
Important reminder: Rumors are just that — rumors. None of this has been confirmed as fact, it’s just circulating around the pro wrestling rumor mill. We track rumor accuracy in a weekly feature called Rumor Look Back you can find here. Remember, take it all with a grain of salt.
Rumors for the Day:
- Videos from several fans in attendance at last night’s SmackDown, including USA Today’s James H. Williams, show Rey Mysterio being helped to the back with an apparent leg injury after his match was over. This has led to speculation that his scheduled match tonight at WrestleMania 41 against El Grande Americano is in jeopardy.
- Fightful Select says pitches were made for Chelsea Green to be part of WrestleMania 41. However, as of earlier this week, Chelsea is not in WWE’s plans for the show.
- One of the ideas was for Green to be the host of WrestleMania. Another idea was for Chelsea to issue a United States championship open challenge that could be answered by a surprise star like Alexa Bliss or Nikki Bella. A title match against Zelina Vega was another possibility.
- The outlet also indicates there are currently no plans for Donald Trump to make an appearance at WrestleMania. WWE creative hasn’t been told anything about Trump, and people working behind the scenes haven’t been asked to prepare for him to be there.
- The betting odds at BetOnline now have Tiffany Stratton favored to beat Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 41. Some of the other favorites to win include El Grande Americano, New Day, Logan Paul, Jade Cargill, and Drew McIntyre.
- During an interview on The Masked Man Show, CM Punk said WWE is trying to get him to sign a five year contract.
- PW Insider thinks there is a 99.9% chance that Living Colour will play “Cult of Personality” live at WrestleMania for Punk’s entrance in tonight’s main event. Meanwhile, Fightful heard that WWE considered bringing in Slayer to play Damian Priest to the ring on Sunday.
- Insider notes that Lana is in Las Vegas with Rusev, and the “word making the rounds” is that she has signed a WWE Legends deal. As for Rusev, he’s “expected to start anytime” with WWE.
- Triple H told DailyMail’s Alex McCarthy that he believes the concept of NXT Europe is still going to happen, as well as “the expansion of what we’re doing” around the globe.
- For whatever it’s worth, F4WOnline’s Dave Meltzer speculated that Omos makes sense as a possible opponent for Randy Orton at WrestleMania 41 on Sunday night.
- Fightful mentioned that Josh Alexander signed with AEW back in February, but his debut on Dynamite was delayed until this week due to a visa situation.
