GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Very warm temperatures and several rounds of thunderstorms are on tap Friday in West Michigan.
A break in the precipitation is expected through at least part of the afternoon, and could even give way to some sunshine. Regardless, the warm front will lift through, allowing temperatures to soar into the mid to upper 70s. A few communities along and south of I-94 might reach 80 degrees.
The atmosphere will develop a cap, which is essentially a lid that limits thunderstorm development, through mid-evening. If forcing can become strong enough to break the cap, explosive thunderstorm development is possible. The more likely scenario, though, is a broken line of thunderstorms moving in after sunset.
The severe risk is on the lower side, but strong winds and large hail are both possible regardless of which scenario unfolds. The Storm Prediction Center has maintained a level 2 (slight) risk of severe weather for the lakeshore. The remainder of lower Michigan is in a level 1 (marginal) risk.
It’s a good idea to remain weather aware through the day, especially in the afternoon and evening, and be alert for rapidly changing weather conditions.
A few showers may linger into Saturday morning, especially south of I-94. The most likely outcome for Saturday is a mostly cloudy day with highs in the mid 50s.
Rain may slide into Michigan later in the afternoon Easter Day. Plan for areas of light rain and temperatures in the 50s. The threat of showers and thunderstorms will increase overnight Sunday.
