Podcast: Reaction and thoughts on Seahawks’ seismic day at wide receiver

What a Wednesday for the Seattle Seahawks.

The theme of the day was the departure of one receiver and the potential departure of another. After 10 years with the Seahawks, Tyler Lockett was released and is already a free agent who can sign with any team he likes as soon as possible. Lockett is second behind the legendary Steve Largent in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns in franchise history. The story of Lockett’s NFL career is not yet over, but sadly it looks like his days in a Seahawks uniform are done.

Then there’s the bombshell story. DK Metcalf, far more polarizing and certainly not universally beloved but still very productive through his six seasons in Seattle, has requested a trade from the team that traded back into the second round to draft him. Metcalf is entering the final year of his contract and it may very well be a case of the Seahawks not being willing to offer him another extension. There will undoubtedly be many suitors, but the trade value in terms of draft capital and/or players remains to be seen. Metcalf asking for a trade also doesn’t mean the Seahawks have to grant it, although reports suggesting the Seahawks are willing to shop him is an indicator that DK’s days in Seattle may really be over.

These times call for an emergency podcast. New Field Gulls staff members and HawksZone Rundown hosts Bryce Coutts, Ryan MacMillan, and yours truly are hopping on for a live emergency podcast starting at 7:30 pm PT. This will be a shorter show with our general thoughts on the day’s news, as well as viewer Q&A at the end of the broadcast.
