SLOPE was an okay, but not great, opener. 149 words and just one green box. I opted for all new letters with CHAIN, and that only slashed it down to three. I had to gamble. I chose the most interesting of the words I could think of: GENIE. Lucky for me, my wishes were answered.

Today’s Wordle Etymology
The word genie comes from the French génie, which was borrowed from Latin genius, meaning a guardian spirit or guiding influence. The Arabic word jinn (or djinn) influenced the modern meaning of genie—a supernatural creature from Middle Eastern folklore. The shift occurred through translations of The Thousand and One Nights in the 18th century, where jinn were rendered as genies in English.
