BATON ROUGE, La. − Tennessee baseball started its series opener at LSU after a 3-hour, 25-minute weather delay Friday.
LSU pitcher Kade Anderson threw a first pitch ball to Vols shortstop Dean Curley at 10:55 p.m. ET at LSU’s Alex Box Stadium. The game was slated to start at 7:30 p.m., but was pushed back due to severe weather in Baton Rouge.
The No. 6 Vols (34-7, 12-6 SEC) and the No. 5 Tigers (34-8, 12-6) are playing a three-game series.
Tennessee and LSU only played once in coach Tony Vitello’s first three seasons before turning up a good rivalry in the past four seasons.
The Vols won five matchups in 2021, sweeping the Tigers and winning two games in the Knoxville Super Regional to clinch the first College World Series berth under Vitello. They won again in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals in 2022.
