Tigers Walk-Off No. 5 Tennessee, 6-3, with Jones’ 452-Foot Homer

First baseman Jared Jones’ three-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth inning Friday night capped a six-run rally, as fourth-ranked LSU defeated No. 5 Tennessee, 6-3, in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.

BATON ROUGE, La. – First baseman Jared Jones launched a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to take game one of a three-game series over Tennessee, 6-3, inside Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.

LSU improved its record to 35-8 on the season and 13-6 in the SEC, while the Volunteers dropped to 34-8 on the year and 12-7 in the league.

Jacob Mayers was credited with his first victory of the season after tossing one inning and allowing one run on one hit.

LSU and Tennessee will meet for the second game of the series Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. CT at The Box. The matchup will be televised on ESPNU and can be heard on the LSU Sports Radio Network affiliates.
