The San Francisco 49ers have the final pick in the 4th round of the 2025 NFL Draft. And with the 138th pick, the 49ers selected Jordan Watkins, a wide receiver from Ole Miss.
Watkins is 5’11 1/4, 196 pounds. He ran a 4.37 40-yard dash, but every other one of his measurables was subpar.
Lane Kiffin relied on Watkins’ speed last season. He had five plays of at least 60 yards for the Rebels in 2024. He’s a player who has instant burst, a big run after the catch threat, and is surprisingly tough over the middle of the field. Basically, get the ball in his hands, and he’ll make plays.
Watkins, a fifth-year senior, was primarily a deep threat at Ole Miss, as 35 percent of his routes were deep. He has a clear role, but I still believe his run-after-catch ability is his best trait. Watkins returned three kicks this past season and three punts. Perhaps that’s another area where he’ll compete for a spot.
Watkins will likely compete with Jacob Cowing. Ricky Pearsall and Jauan Jennings have their spots locked, and Brandon Aiyuk when he gets healthy. That leaves Demarcus Robinson and potentially Watkins to make an impact.
