GM recall of nearly 600,000 vehicles includes 8 car models: See the full list

General Motors is recalling nearly 600,000 vehicles across its Chevrolet, Cadillac and GMC brands due to issues that can lead to engine damage and failure.

The recall applies to 597,630 vehicles equipped with a 6.2-liter V8 gas engine, according to a recall notice released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on April 24.

The connecting rod and/or crankshaft engine components may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage and engine failure, according to the recall. Drivers may hear a knocking, banging or unusual engine noise, see an engine light come on or experience abnormal shifting, high RPMs or reduced propulsion as a result of the engine issue, per the recall.

The GMC models are the most affected by the recall with 297,395 vehicles, followed by Chevrolet (174,208) and Cadillac (126,027).

An investigation by General Motors found 28,102 complaints or incidents across the U.S. between April 2021 and February 2025 potentially related to the failure of the 6.2-liter V8 gas engine due to crankshaft, connecting rod or engine issues, according to the recall. Among those, 14,332 involved allegations of loss of propulsion.

GM found 12 potentially related alleged crashes and 12 potentially related alleged injuries, which were “minor or non-physical” and most of which were not crash-related, per the notice. It also found 42 potentially related allegations of fire in the U.S but said the cause of the majority of them is unclear or they were contained to the engine compartment.

The recall comes less than two weeks after GM rival Ford issued a recall for more than 120,000 vehicles over brake and software issues.
