The star of Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings just turned it up to 11 with a très magnifique proposal—and sparkler.
Simu Liu, the star of the 2021 Disney movie, announced May 11 he is engaged to longtime partner Allison Hsu. The two shared photos of the two standing on a balcony in Paris, with the actor’s fiancée showcasing her massive oval-cut diamond engagement ring, as well as a pic of the two embracing in front of the Eiffel Tower.
The bride-to-be commented on the joint Instagram post, “Us forever,” adding three ring emojis and three white heart emojis.
Liu, 36, and Hsu, 28, soon shared another Instagram pic that shows the two kissing on a balcony adorned with candles and pink flowers. “From weekends in Paris, day trips to Palm Springs, long nights on set, afternoons vegging on the couch and everything in between,” the Barbie actor wrote, “I choose you forever and always.”
Hsu commented, “I love you fiancé!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
The pair received congratulatory messages from celebs such as Olivia Munn and Florence Pugh—who stars with Liu in Avengers: Doomsday, which began filming in March.
Liu and Hsu, a marketing director, were first romantically linked in late 2022. In November of that year, she shared a photo of the two looking cozy on Instagram. Days later, the two made their red carpet debut as a couple at the premiere of the R-rated Christmas movie Violent Night in Los Angeles.

Hsu would go on to accompany the actor at several other celebrity events, including the premiere of Barbie in 2023. Liu later paid tribute to his partner on her birthday and reflected on the positive impact she’s had on his life.
“She inspires me in her passion for music (well…one musician specifically), teaches me how to balance a busy and chaotic schedule with grace, and touches me in how she cares for each and every person in her life,” he wrote on Instagram in August 2023. Most importantly, she shows me that the people we love are always worth fighting for.”
