Panthers fans bummed out over DK Metcalf’s trade to the Steelers

Ladies and gentlemen, the Carolina Panthers did not get him.

Despite the optimism and speculation surrounding a potential trade for Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf, the Panthers did not end up with the two-time Pro Bowler. Instead, he’s off to the Pittsburgh Steelersโ€”who struck the shocking blockbuster deal on Sunday evening.

Metcalf now heads to the (not warm) AFC North in exchange for a 2025 second-round draft pick. Plus, he’ll have plenty of extra cash for the moveโ€”as Steelers are ready to sign over a fresh five-year, $150 million contract for their new offensive star.

But back to Carolina, where a bit of disappointment now lingers.

Panthers fans were hopeful that their team had almost everything Metcalf was looking for. They had the connections, they had the money and they had the assets.

They didn’t, however, ultimately have a deal for who would have been their much-needed No. 1 wideout.

Here’s how the Carolina faithful have reacted to the trade . . .

If Dan Morgan, Dave Canales, and Brad Idzik reeeeally wanted DK Metcalf, the #Panthers would have paid a 2nd round pick and a $30M contract for him, if not more

Looks to be no path to a true WR1 for CAR this offseasonWeak FA classNo great trade targetsAny WR at 8 is a reachThey can still be intentional with the skillsets missing from that group (vertical speed, separation, YAC)

Must raise the floor of that room

DK was very familiar with the offensive coaches and the QB, and decided to go somewhere else where he doesn’t know either.

Bryce I’m sorry. Chris Godwin may be your last hope.
