Avelo Airlines is adding three new direct flights from Raleigh-Durham International Airport, including one to the Bahamas.
Why it matters: The flight will fill a hole left behind by the airline Bahamasair, which flew from RDU to Nassau until last year.
Driving the news: Avelo will start twice-weekly service to the Bahamas in June.
- The fast-growing budget airline will also add direct flights from RDU to Philadelphia and Grand Rapids, Michigan, beginning in May.
The big picture: Avelo is investing heavily in routes out of RDU — especially to the Caribbean.
