(WSET) — The ice bucket challenge is back, but this time with a new mission.
The challenge is simple: you have someone dump a bucket of ice-cold water over your head, then you nominate someone else to take on the challenge.
Local students participated in the trend, including some members of the E.C. Glass Lacrosse team.
It’s called the “Speak Your Mind” challenge.

The trend started with the Mind Club at the University of South Carolina as a way to raise awareness for mental health and support for the non-profit, “Active Minds.”
The trend has gained in support as sports teams, groups, and individuals join in.
“It’s sports teams, it’s athletes, it’s high schools and middle schools and cheerleading teams standing up and saying look we want to talk about mental health and so we use this viral moment to say there is a bigger, deeper meaning,” said Brett Curtis, Director of Community Fundraising for Active Minds.
Curtis was nominated and took part in the challenge.
He said the response has been incredible.
If you are struggling or know someone who is, Curtis said he recommends reaching out and having open conversations.
Curtis also challenged the ABC 13 staff to participate, so keep an eye out for some very chilly news reporters and anchors!
