AUSTIN – The Texas A&M baseball team will look to claim its fourth straight SEC series as it travels to face No. 1 Texas in the Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown, beginning Friday night at 7 p.m. at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. Saturday and Sunday’s games are slated for 3 p.m.
Friday’s series opener will be broadcast on SEC Network, while Saturday and Sunday’s contests will air on ESPN2. All three games can be heard locally on SportsRadio 1150 AM/93.7 The Zone and fans can also follow along with the series through live stats or on X, @AggieBaseball.
Friday’s contest marks the 378th installment of the rivalry between the Aggies (24-16, 8-10) and Longhorns (34-5, 16-2). The Maroon & White have won six the last seven meetings in the series, including three straight in Austin. The Aggies claimed both matchups a season ago, recording a 9-2 win at UFCU Disch-Falk Field and a 4-2 victory in the Bryan-College Station Regional.
Texas A&M will send its usual trio of left-handers to the mound this weekend in Ryan Prager, Justin Lamkin and Myles Patton. Lamkin leads the group with a 4.13 ERA, 61 strikeouts and six quality starts. The junior ranks fourth among the league in walks allowed per nine (1.91), seventh in strikeout-to-walk ratio (5.08), 12th in WHIP (1.18) and 13th in strikeouts.
Patton ranks second in the SEC in walks allowed per nine (1.73) and sits fourth in strikeout-to-walk ratio (5.90).
The Aggies enter the weekend as one of the hottest teams in the country with wins in 10 of their last 11 contests, following a 13-3 run-rule victory over Sam Houston in midweek action. Kaeden Kent, Jace LaViolette and Caden Sorrell have powered the Texas A&M offense during the stretch as the trio has combined for nine doubles, 14 homers, 36 walks, 51 RBI and a .410 batting average. As a team, the Maroon & White are averaging 11.4 runs per game over the last 11 contests and have outscored their opponents 125-52.
As a pitching staff, the Aggies rank second nationally in walks allowed per nine (2.76), third in strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.45), and 12th in WHIP (1.24). On the offensive end, the Maroon & White sit 13th in home runs with 70.
