This topic is made in response to the following topic: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=4005 As I said there, to even question the validity of comics as an art expression is ridiculous to me. I take it that people who are asking are simply more or less ignorant about the achievements of the medium. Going through a detailed exploration of the most acclaimed works would necessitate to basically write an essay, and that’s not my ambition, so I just went through my books about comics and collected the lists of recommended comics I own. As much as possible I tried to retro-translate the works’ titles to their original languages, since most of them are in French in the books. Also, the illustrations are only there for visual enjoyment, and must not be perceived as highlights: what are comics without pictures?
