Today I am going to show you how to make the most amazing lamb bone broth in the Instant Pot Pressure Cooker.

Last week in the Instant Pot Pressure Cooker I introduced you to my Instant Pot Turkey Bone Broth, plus we also have our Instant Pot Chicken Bone Broth on the blog.

I am sure you’re seeing a theme going on here.

Well there is in a way. I love saving money on groceries andI was taught by my Grandparents to never waste anything.

My grandad would find amazing old items at the rubbish tipand then do them up so that they looked as good as new. He was also amazing at cookingthe most delicious liver and his meals were always frugal.

Nowadays though, we live in a society when making lamb bone broth would be overlooked it many homes.

Lots of people (not everyone) just doesn’t see the health benefits of having lamb bone broth in their diets, or how wonderful it feels to make use out your leftover lamb bones.

My obsession with lamb bone broth goes beyond just making usof the lamb bones or having something ultra-nutritious in my diet.

For me there is another reason why I love making lamb bonebroth.

That is for the flavour in cooking.

I love to use bone broths whenever I am cooking especially in the Instant Pot Pressure Cooker.

This is because often, you lose flavour of food when you pressure cook, so having extra bone broth added to casseroles, stews and such like makes food taste extra special.

Each time I have bones I will make bone broth for later, then I can have lots of freezer portions for whenever I need them.

Right now, as I type this, I have duck fat, beef bone broth, lamb bone broth, chicken bone broth and turkey bone broth, as well as turkey neck soup in my freezer. All using up bones that would normally be thrown away.

I recommend that you make use of any bones you have and don’twaste this delicious nutritious whole food staple.

Lamb Bone Broth

I had a tiny lamb shoulder that would make about 6 chunks of lamb stewing meat (if you’re lucky) as well as the lamb bones from making Sous Vide Leg Of Lamb the day before.

Altogether it is not enough for a meal, but it is perfect for making into Lamb Bone Broth, to then store in the freezer for some future flavourings for cooking with.

I had celery, spring onion and carrots that needed using up.But if I didn’t, I would have used a white onion instead.

The golden rule is having a mix of root vegetables and onionas well as your leftover lamb bones.

lamb bone broth benefits are HUGE. Both for humans and for your dogs. Many people cook their lambbones for their dogs or use it to detox and get rid of the common cold.

I love it most for gut health. I have suffered from IBS inthe past as well as PCOS and I like to detox regularly to give my gut a boostand make me feel good. Plus compare it to using poor quality lamb stock and itsso much better for you.

Plus, as a mum that wants to keep her weight down, lamb bonebroth is fantastic for aiding the metabolism and giving it a kick start.

How To Cook Lamb Bone Broth?

Lamb Bone Broth is one of the simplest recipes I have ever made in the Instant Pot. It is very much like dump and go pressure cooking. You saute your lamb meat first, as this adds flavour to your pressure cooker.

Then after this you dump everything into your pot and cook for 2 hours. Drain it off when it beeps and you have delicious homemade lamb bone broth!

Or step by step lambbone broth is THIS simple:

  • Add lamb meat scraps to the Instant Pot and cook on sauté with your extra virgin olive oil
  • Add in the rest of your ingredients including your pressure cooker liquid
  • Cook for 2 hours
  • Sieve and fridge

You’re probably wondering why I use the Instant Pot Pressure Cooker for making my lamb bone broth?

Well the truth is that the lamb bone broth pressure cooker method is much faster, and it makes you feel like your hands free and not stuck in the kitchen.

A typical lamb bone broth would be cooked in a HUGE stockpot for 2 days to get all thegoodness off the bones and create a delicious bone broth.

BUT cook lambbone broth in the Instant Pot and your time has gone from 2 days down to 2hours. Isn’t that AMAZING?

Instructions

  • Cook for roast lamb as usual and then after cooking reserve your lamb bones or purchase them from US Wellness Meats.

  • Place any diced lamb you have into your Instant Pot Pressure Cooker. Set it to sauté and add your olive oil, salt, pepper and rosemary.

  • Sauté for 2-3 minutes or until you can start smelling the lamb.

  • Add in spring onion, celery and carrots.

  • Stir well.

  • Load up the lamb bones and pour over ½ litre of water that has been mixed with your mixed herbs into the Instant Pot. This will form your flavoured liquid.

  • Set the valve to sealing and cook for 2 hours on manual pressure.

  • Manually release pressure when it beeps and allow it to cool for a few minutes so that its not too hot to handle.

  • Using a sieve (or the sieve and bowl method like we ddrain the broth from the stock.

  • 1Drain a second time with a thinner sieve to get rid of any of the super tiny bones.

  • 1Place into a jug and keep in the fridge overnight.

  • 1The next day, skim the fat from the top of the lamb bone broth and then pour the bone broth into containers.

  • 1Serve as you wish.

Notes

Remember lamb is a fatty meat. Because of this I highly recommend you follow our lead and fridge your lamb bone broth for 12 hours, skim the top and then place it into freezer containers.

I had only a small amount of lamb meat scraps to use and even a small 3-4 chunks will enhance the flavour of your lamb bone broth.
