How Much Does it Cost to Ship a Car to Nigeria?
The basic cost to ship a car from all five U.S. ports to Nigeria is $1,335. But these are not final prices, as some factors may change the price you pay a bit.
- Your final price may change with the area of the USA from which your car is being shipped. For instance, it costs less to ship from the East Coast than the West Coast. So it will cost more if you are departing out of Freeport TX than Newark, NJ.
- Your final price may change with the method chosen to get your car to the U.S. port. Some people live close to the departure port and decide to take their own car there. This costs less. Some people live too far from the nearest port and would rather pay our truck drivers to transport their car from their home to the port. This costs more.
- Your final price may change with the size of your vehicle. In general, it costs more to ship a larger car than a smaller one. So you won’t pay as much to ship a compact car as you would a truck or SUV.
Only once we have that info from you, can we estimate costs more precisely.

NEVER.(Regarding the negative reviews..)Ship overseas is not an insurance provider, but rather a shipping company -- you must make sure to get insurance when shipping your vehicle so that no damages occur to it. They don't own the ship, nor workers, and of course as a result cannot guarantee the people on the ship won't damage your car.ShipOverseas is my go-to when I have to ship my cars. I used Ship Overseas back in 2019 to ship my 2008 Harley Softtail from Galveston Texas to Belgium. I forget exactly how long it took, perhaps in the two month range. However, the bike did eventually arrive and was completely ready for me at pickup. They even handled all the import paperwork etc. My only complaint would be that somehow the bike had accumulated almost 100 extra miles on it from when I dropped in off, and picking it up. Perhaps they needed to run it around the boat a few 1000 times. Also, there were a couple of parts missing from my saddle bags. Lesson: NEVER leave anything that can't be bolted to the object you are shipping. Otherwise, great service and a very good shipping experience.

Hello Tere! Last summer I sent my car to Estonia. I was scared little bit because it was my first time ( maybe even last!) to do this kind of thing. But it went very smoothly - unexpectedly . Most difficult thing was driving myself to the port, but I did it! I could order somebody from Ship Overseas, but it cost money. And paperwork was pretty normal. The same day, I left to the airport, I got phone call that they sent car title to my old address. Wow! I thought that this title goes directly to the Estonian port, but I was wrong. They sent this very important paper over to my son.It arrived on time when I was ready to show car documents to the toll office. Everything ended very well ! Thanks to Ship Overseas. Do You Need Marine Insurance?
While not required, we highly recommend it. You can get insurance in the amount of 1.75% of the value of the vehicle for FULL coverage, theft, vandalism, damage and total loss with a $500 deductible. Coverage starts once your car has been loaded onto the ship and lasts until the time it is signed for when collected. Total Loss: 1.25% charge for the value of the vehicle.
You don’t even have to cover 100% of the vehicle’s value if you feel that Marine Insurance is out of your budget. You can cover the car for 50% or 75% of the value to keep costs down. Just remember that if your car is damaged in transit and you don’t have insurance, you will have to pay for those damages out of pocket.

RoRo Shipping – RoRo ships are meant to transport wheeled cargo such as cars and motorcycles – a more affordable way to ship a car to Nigeria. This involves vehicles being driven onto the ship of their own power (sort of like a parking garage ramp).
Container Shipping – Your car, shipped inside a container with other cars to offset cost, is more cost effective if you used shared shipping;you will pay more for it to travel solo in its own container with exclusive shipping.

Shipping Method for Shipping a Car to Nigeria

RoRo Shipping (Roll On/Roll Off)
RoRo shipping is a wise choice if your car is still in working order, and you plan to ship a single vehicle to Nigeria. That’s because this is a cost-effective and efficient method featuring reliable departure and arrival dates. You get protection for your vehicle from the elements, as all vehicles are tied to the deck with no exposure to the ocean water, and air.
Our most popular option, Roll On/Roll Off also happens to be convenient and affordable. It can only be used for wheeled vehicles such as motorcycles, cars, motorhomes, campers, trailers buses, construction vehicles and boats. But keep in mind they have to be able to be driven onto the ship of their own accord.

Container Shipping
Or, you could choose to ship your car in a shipping container. You’ll have to choose from two more options: shared or exclusive container shipping.
This is the most affordable option of the two, with the cost being offset over four vehicles in the same container. However, there is a disadvantage to this method: you will have to wait until the whole container is filled with other vehicles before it can be loaded onto the container ship and set sail. Therefore, your departure date cannot be guaranteed.
If you choose this method, keep in mind you could have to wait an extra week or more until the container is filled with more cars.
A big plus to this method: you can place additional items in the trunk or the backseat of your vehicle for the ride. You aren’t allowed to do this with RoRo. And also unlike RoRo, your vehicle doesn’t have to be working to use this option. As such, many of our clients who own broken down classic cars choose this method.
If you don’t care when the ship sets sail, or you have two or more vehicles to ship to Nigeria, this is a valid choice.

Exclusive Container Shipping
Exclusive container shipping will cost you more but your car is the only one in the container – great news if you have exotic, expensive or rare vehicles like Bentleys, Ferraris, Aston Martins, etc. When you want special treatment for your “baby,” shipping exclusive is the way to go.

When it’s impossible to get your car to the port on your own, let us know and we will transport your vehicle to the port for you. To do this, we offer you yet another choice: open and enclosed auto shipping, whereby our drivers will pick up the car from your location and deliver it to the port for shipping to Nigeria.
Open Auto Shipping – This one comes with a lower price tag because your cost is shared with up to nine other cars on a transport truck that is open to the elements. This is the most common type of car shipping method, ideal for standard cars, compact cars, sedans and minivans. The driver will load and unload the truck of vehicles while making his or her way across the country, with the load lightening at each stop.
Enclosed Auto Shipping – This one comes with a higher price tag but you have more protection during transport because the cars are enclosed within a truck. As such, your car is protected from the elements and road grime. Ideal for transporting luxury, exotic, specialty, or vintage cars, your car is shipped together with two other vehicles, driven onto the truck on a special ramp or lift-gate.
We heavilyrecommend buying the optional marine insurance because you just never know what could happen. While damage or loss is rare, accidents can and do happen, especially when the seas are roughduring hurricane season (June to November).We offer FULL COVERAGE Marine Insurance against Loss or Damage from the time your car is loaded onto the ship. The cost is 1.75% of the value you wish to insure the car for.
