AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Augusta National Golf Club said Sunday evening that due to expected inclement weather and safety concerns, patron gates will not open as scheduled for Monday’s practice round for the Masters Tournament.
All patron parking lots will remain closed until further notice. No patrons should approach Augusta National Golf Club until more details are released.
The next update will be provided by 8 a.m. Monday.
News 12 meteorologists have issued a FIRST ALERT for overnight Sunday and Monday for the risk of flash flood and possibly a few strong to severe thunderstorms.
The Augusta area is in marginal risk (5%) of excessive rainfall and a marginal category (Level 1 of 5) for severe thunderstorms capable of damaging wind from late Sunday through the day Monday.
Monday is scheduled as the first day of practice rounds for participants in the 89th Masters Tournament,
As soon as the Drive Chip and Put National Finals were finished Sunday afternoon, Masters players could be seen on the range at Augusta National.
The tournament begins in earnest on Thursday, and even if players aren’t able to get out on the course Monday, a full day of Masters activities is scheduled.
Those include the annual State of the Masters news conference with Augusta National Chairman Fred Ridley, as well as news conferences with players Xander Schauffele, Justin Hastings, Hiroshi Tai and Bernhard Langer.
