DENVER — The Colorado Avalanche enter Thursday night’s game against the Vancouver Canucks firmly in third place in the Central Division. Coverage of the game begins at 6:30 p.m. on 9NEWS and KTVD Channel 20.
On Tuesday, the Avs came back to beat the Pacific Division leading Vegas Golden Knights in a shootout 3-2.
Colorado has picked up 15 points in their last 10 games, going 7-2-1. Their two regulation losses have come at the hands of the surging St. Louis Blues.
This will be Colorado’s final home game of the regular season. The Avalanche have done well for the home crowd this season, going 26-11-3 in side the walls of Ball Arena.
The Vancouver is coming off an impressive win in Dallas on Tuesday where they overcame a late three-goal deficit in the final minute of the game. The Canucks went on to win in overtime 6-5.
Vancouver is fighting for a wild card spot in the west, needing every point they can get. With four games left to play, the Canucks are eight points behind the Blues and Minnesota Wild in the Western Conference wild card race.
Nathan MacKinnon has seven points in his last five games. He is currently tied for the league lead in points with 116. Last season, MacKinnon set a franchise record for most points in a season. The previous record was held by Peter Stastney during the Quebec Nordiques 1981-82 season.

Cale Makar has recorded seven points in his last five games including a three point game against the Columbus Blue Jackets where he recorded his 30th goal of the season. Makar is the 9th defenseman in NHL history to score 30 or more goals in a season. He is also the first defenseman to do it since Mike Green of the Washington Capitals in the 2008-09 season.
Brock Boeser leads the Canucks in goals this season with 24. He has recoded three points in his last five games.
