Boston Red Sox lineup: OF who was scratched Saturday not in lineup for Game 1

Update: Alex Cora said during his pregame press conference that Abreu was feeling “some heavy legs” and will play the second game of the doubleheader.

“He’s been dealing with some heavy legs,” Cora said. “Obviously running around that much and the spring training thing (sick). So obviously yesterday the way things were trending we pulled him out. But he’ll play the second game today.”

BOSTON — Wilyer Abreu, who got scratched from the Red Sox lineup Saturday before the game got postponed due to rain, is not in the lineup Sunday.

The Red Sox and Cardinals will play Game 1 of a day-night doubleheader at 1:35 p.m. here at Fenway Park. Game 2 is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.

It’s still unclear why Abreu got scratched from Saturday’s lineup. Manager Alex Cora will speak at 11:05 a.m.

Rob Refsnyder will play right field instead.

The 25-year-old Abreu has been Boston’s hottest hitter so far. He’s 11-for-22 (.500) with three homers and two doubles, nine runs, eight RBIs, seven walks and two strikeouts in eight games.

The Red Sox promoted hard-throwing righty Hunter Dobbins as their 27th man.

“There’s a good chance,” he’ll be the Game 2 starter, Cora said.
