Former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman will be back in action against rising contender Joaquin Buckley as the two men headline UFC Atlanta on June 14 from inside State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
This is according to UFC CEO, Dana White, who took to his Instagram account Friday evening to confirm the main event booking. UFC’s social media platforms also revealed the fight news. Check it out below:
Usman, who turns 38 next month, is riding a rough three-fight losing streak dating back to 2022. This includes two consecutive losses to Leon Edwards and most recently a three-round majority decision loss to Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 294 back in Oct. 2023, which was contested at middleweight. Many thought Usman may have done enough to walk away with victories in two of those fights, but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s winless inside of the Octagon since a decision over Colby Covington all the way back in Nov. 2021.

Buckley, who turns 31 this weekend, has been on an absolute tear since returning to 170 pounds back in 2023. “New Mansa” has turned in a perfect record of 6-0 with key victories over the likes of Covington, Stephen Thompson, Vicente Luque, and Nursulton Ruziboev. Buckley has undoubtedly earned the right to fight into the top five in 2025 and Usman will be the one to welcome him to the upper echelon of UFC welterweights.
