China’s policymakers discussed measures over the weekend to stabilize the economy and the markets in the face of US President Donald Trump’s tariff onslaught, including whether to accelerate plans to unleash stimulus to bolster consumption, according to people familiar with the matter.

Top leadership and senior officials across government entities, including the financial regulators, convened in the last three days and considered moving forward some measures that were planned even before Trump’s tariffs, said the people, asking not to be identified discussing a private matter.
