Davis missed most of the second quarter after being elbowed in the eye by teammate C Daniel Gafford but returned just before halftime to help Dallas win for the fifth time in 7 games. The Mavericks currently sit ninth in the Western Conference, 6½ games behind the eighth-place Clippers, 1½ games ahead of the 10th-place Sacramento Kings and 2½ games ahead of the 11th-place Phoenix Suns.

The Clippers also failed to cover as home favorites Wednesday, beating the New Orleans Pelicans 114-98 as 18-point favorites with the Under (219) cashing. F Kawhi Leonard finished with a game-high 28 points and G James Harden added 21 points and 10 assists. LA is a half-game out of the No. 6 seed in the West — behind both the Memphis Grizzlies and Minnesota Timberwolves.

The straight-up winner has covered each head-to-head meeting this season with the Under going 2-0. In their last meeting — Dec. 21 in Dallas — the Mavericks covered as 3.5-point favorites in a 113-97 win with the Under (220) hitting. Former Mavericks G Quentin Grimes — who is now with Philadelphia — had a team-high 20 points off the bench, while Clippers G Norman Powell led all scorers with 28.
