South Carolina women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley looks to join an elite company of coaches with a national championship on Sunday.
It won’t be easy against UConn, which has been a buzzsaw in the 2024-25 women’s NCAA Tournament and is led by Paige Bueckers, one of the top players in college basketball.

Staley has built the Gamecocks into a powerhouse, with seven Final Four appearances since 2015. South Carolina only had three Sweet 16 appearances before Staley’s arrival and has had 12 since she was hired in 2008-09.
Staley has done nothing but win in her career, whether as a player or coach, as she was a two-time national player of the year at Virginia and made three Final Fours. It’s safe to say Staley is a veteran of college basketball’s grandest stage.

Staley has won three national championships in her career and is looking for her second in a row and third in the last four years on Sunday against UConn.
With a win, Staley becomes one of four women’s college basketball coaches with at least four national titles, joining the elite group of Geno Auriemma, Pat Summitt and Kim Mulkey.
