East Texans without power, roads closed as severe weather continues Saturday

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – Strong storms on Friday left behind damage that communities are working to recover from as rain continues to fall on Saturday.

Smith County

Gladewater, Shell Camp Road – closed due to washout

Gladewater, Lake Gladewater Park & Boat Ramps – closed due to rising water

CR 313 East and 4126 – closed due to downed power lines as of 10:15 a.m.

CR 463, 411, 474, 4129 – closed due to high water as of 10:15 a.m.

CR 1125, 1134, 313 West, 4129, 485, 4105, 4126, 423, 4127, 4106, 4104 – closed for downed trees as of 10:15 a.m.

Van Zandt County

Grand Saline, 200 block of East Hill Street – closed due to downed tree

The company says crews are working to restore power and noted the storm has caused severe flooding in parts of their service territory. They didn’t provide a specific restoration estimate.

The coop says at about 6:30 a.m., more than 800 members were without power, and crews have been working throughout the morning to lower that number. As of about 8:30 a.m., they said about 250 members remained without power overall, and work is ongoing.

The coop said as of 7 a.m., about 11,600 members were without power. To restore service, their focus is on a transmission line from Gilmer to Little Mound, where crews have identified three separate issues and two poles in need of repair. They said outside contractors have also been enlisted to help with repairs.

The City of Hawkins said in a release than an onsite supervisor for the coop has said restoration may be by this afternoon, as a best-case scenario, or by tomorrow.

As of 11 a.m., the coop said progress on restoration is slow, with crews deployed across the system to scattered outages. They said flooding and downed trees are slowing work. The large outage in Hawkins is due to a lack of transmission feed, the coop said, and AEP is working to fix the issue before the coop can begin restoration circuit by circuit.
