Elton John is a knight, ICYMI.
In the promo video for his, Brandi Carlile and Jack Black‘s Saturday Night Live appearance on April 5, the “Crocodile Rock” singer reminded fans that he is indeed knighted — only after the Minecraft Movie actor reminded SNL castmember Heidi Gardner that they are “totally normal people.”
“Wow, it is so crazy to be up here with all you guys, I am very overwhelmed,” Gardner, 41, says. “Just take a deep breath, Heidi. We are totally normal people,” the School of Rock star, 55, reassured her.
Carlile, 43, chimes in: “minus our fame and money.” “And immeasurable music talent!” Black added.

John, 78, then cheekily reminds everyone, “I’m also a knight.” Gardner, apparently overwhelmed, thanks the comedy show’s guests for their humblebrags. “I feel a lot better,” she said.
Fans loved the EGOT winner’s casual remark about being knighted in 1998 by the late Queen Elizabeth II. “‘I’m also a knight’ was the best Elton John remark ever in that promo~,” one person wrote. “The casual ‘and I’m a knight….’ HOWLING!” another said.
Overall, Saturday Night Live viewers were excited for this week’s episode. “I know they get big stars, but Elton is one of the biggest I can remember. What an exciting week for the cast,” one fan commented.
“Elton John is a true icon and the best musical guest in a long time,” another wrote. “Jack Black is a comedian who will be genuinely funny – can’t wait.’

Aside from being knighted, John was also made a member of the Order of the Companions of Honour in 2021 which recognizes those who impacted arts, science, medicine or government over a long period of time.
The “Bennie and the Jets” singer’s appearance on Saturday Night Live is his first in 14 years when he pulled double-duty as musical guest and host. He was also a musical guest on the show in 1982.
Carlile, who performed on the sketch comedy series in 2021 and 2022, joins him to promote their new album Who Believes in Angels? which was released on Friday, April 4.
