A top European Union official said the bloc offered “zero-for-zero” tariffs for industrial goods during trade discussions with U.S. officials.

“We stand ready to negotiate with the U.S.,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said. She said the bloc’s offer mirrors an approach it has taken with many other trading partners. “Europe is always ready for a good deal. So we keep it on the table,” she said. Von der Leyen added the EU prefers a negotiated solution but is also prepared to respond to U.S. tariffs with countermeasures.
