Elon Musk has welcomed 14 children over the years — and has made several comments about keeping them coming.
The Tesla CEO welcomed six children with his ex-wife Justine Wilson, including son Nevada Alexander, who tragically died at 10 weeks old. Over two decades later, he went on to welcome three children with singer Grimes, whom he dated for several years.
Musk also shares four children with Shivon Zilis, an executive at his Neuralink company, as well as one son with author Ashley St. Clair, whom the billionaire allegedly offered a one-time payment of $15 million, as well as $100,000 a month in support, to keep quiet about their baby.
Over the years, Musk has not revealed many details about his children, but he has made comments praising his contribution to “the underpopulation crisis.”
“A collapsing birth rate is the biggest danger civilization faces by far,” he wrote on X in July 2022.
Below, here are all of the comments Elon Musk has made about his ever-growing number of kids.

During an October 2022 interview with Financial Times — a few months after reports surfaced that Musk had welcomed twins with Zilis — the SpaceX founder opened up about what it’s like to be a father of 10, and called himself an “autumn chicken.”
Although Musk, who was 51 years old at the time, said he was “pretty sure there are no other babies looming,” he shared that he was open to welcoming more kids in the future, as long as he could be a good father to them.

In June 2022, Musk’s estranged daughter Vivian legally changed her last name to Wilson after saying she didn’t “wish to be related” to her father “in any way, shape or form.”
During his interview with Financial Times, Musk claimed she no longer wished to be associated with him because of the supposed takeover of elite schools and universities by neo-Marxists.
“It’s full-on communism … and a general sentiment that if you’re rich, you’re evil,” Musk said.
He went on to say that he has “very good relationships” with his other children, while acknowledging his strained dynamic with Vivian, saying, “Can’t win them all.”

Over the years, Musk has been vocal about his desire to have more children to increase the birth rate.
During the Wall Street Journal‘s annual CEO Council in December 2021, Musk claimed there are “not enough people” in the world, and expressed concern for civilization if people don’t have large families.
“I think one of the biggest risks to civilization is the low birth rate and the rapidly declining birthrate,” the Tesla CEO said. “Please look at the numbers — if people don’t have more children, civilization is going to crumble, mark my words.”
That wasn’t the only time he publicly encouraged people to welcome many children.
“I hope you have big families and congrats to those who already do!” he wrote on X in July 2022.

During a July 2022 episode of the Full Send podcast, billionaire Mark Cuban reflected on a conversation he once had with Musk, in which the Tesla CEO supposedly joked about personally populating Mars.
“I know Elon a tiny bit. He’s a different dude,” Cuban said, continuing to recall a time he congratulated Musk on the birth of another child.
“I’m like, ‘Dude, congratulations, how many are you going to have?’ He sends me a text back, ‘Mars needs people.’ “

After claiming Musk as the father of her infant son in February 2025, St. Clair filed for sole legal custody. In the accompanying paternity petition, St. Clair included what she said were text messages exchanged between herself and Musk, who allegedly told her that they had a “legion of kids to make.”
According to a Wall Street Journal report published on April 15, Musk views his kids as a “legion,” otherwise known as a military unit by the Roman army that consisted of thousands of soldiers.
The outlet shared another alleged text exchange between Musk and St. Clair in which he wrote that in order to “reach legion-level before the apocalypse,” they would need to “use surrogates.”
The Wall Street Journal also reported that Musk has used X to try and seek out more women to have his babies. The same day the report surfaced, Musk responded with an X post of his own, writing, “TMZ >> WSJ.”
