It’s been three years since new Stranger Things episodes aired – and fans are counting down the days until the highly-anticipated final season. Here’s everything to know (so far) about Stranger Things Season 5, including the exciting news announced during Netflix’s TUDUM 2025.
Filming for the final season of Stranger Things began in January 2024 and wrapped 11 months later in December. In an emotional Instagram post, co-creator Ross Duffer reflected on what it’s been like to tell these stories for a decade and to watch the cast grow up around him.

The co-creator added that everyone involved in Season 5 “was determined to bring this story to a satisfying conclusion. They poured their hearts and souls into it, and we couldn’t be more proud of what they’ve accomplished.”

At Netflix TUDUM 2025, the streamer revealed that Stranger Things Season 5 will be released in three parts. Check out the release schedule below:
- Volume 1: Nov. 26, 2025, at 5 p.m. PT
- Volume 2: Dec. 25, 2025, at 5 p.m. PT (Christmas Day)
- The Finale: Dec. 31, 2025, at 5 p.m. PT (New Year’s Eve)
This multi-part release strategy follows the fourth season of Stranger Things, which was released in two parts on May 27 and July 1. It’s a common approach Netflix uses for its most popular series, including The Witcher, Bridgerton and Emily in Paris.

Netflix confirmed via a cast photo that the main cast will return for Stranger Things Season 5, including Noah Schnapp, Millie Bobby Brown, David Harbour, Winona Ryder, Cara Buono, Joe Keery, Amybeth McNulty, Charlie Heaton, Brett Gelman, Maya Hawke, Natalia Dyer, Jamie Campbell Bower, Priah Ferguson, Linda Hamilton, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, the Duffer Brothers (Ross and Matt), Finn Wolfhard and Sadie Sink.
New additions to the cast for the final run include Linda Hamilton, Nell Fisher, Jake Connelly and Alex Breaux. Hamilton will be playing a new role in Hawkins, though not much is known about her character yet.

The plot for Stranger Things Season 5 remains tightly under wraps, but the next chapter will pick up after the explosive Season 4, Part 2 finale, where the Hawkins crew tried to take down Vecna for good. Max volunteered to serve as bait to lure Vecna in, while Eleven used a sensory deprivation tank to enter Max’s mind and confront Vecna directly. After Vecna killed Max, triggering the opening of the fourth gate, Eleven used her powers to revive her, although Max remained in a coma.
In one of the most heartbreaking moments from “Chapter Nine: The Piggyback,” Eddie Munson sacrificed himself to distract the demobats and protect his friends. Though severely injured, Vecna managed to escape. In the final moments, Hawkins is left in ruins, with the barrier between the real world and the Upside Down rendered nonexistent.
Matt and Ross Duffer told Deadline in 2023 that their goal for Season 5 is to “stick the landing.”
“Characters are already going to be in action, they’re already going to have a goal and a drive, and I think that’s going to carve out at least a couple hours and make this season feel really different,” Matt explained. “I’m sure the wrap-up will be a lot longer. It’s going to be ‘Return of the King’-ish with, like, eight endings.
