Flyers fire John Tortorella after 3 seasons, name Brad Shaw interim coach

The Philadelphia Flyers announced Thursday that they have relieved John Tortorella of his duties as head coach, naming Brad Shaw his replacement on an interim basis.

Shaw was associate coach under Tortorella.

“Today I made the very difficult decision to move on from John as our head coach,” general manager Daniel Briere said in a release. “John played a vital role in our rebuild. He set a standard of play and re-established what it means to be a Philadelphia Flyer. John’s passion on the bench was only equaled by his charitable work in our community. As we move into the next chapter of this rebuild, I felt this was the best for our team to move forward. I’d like to thank John for his tireless work and commitment to the Flyers.”

Tortorella had been the Flyers’ coach since 2022-23, going 97-107-33 with the rebuilding team. He previously was head coach of the New York Rangers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Rangers (again), Vancouver Canucks and Columbus Blue Jackets.
