Former 49ers breakout RB agrees to sign with Kansas City

After reportedly agreeing to a deal with offensive tackle Jaylon Moore at the start of free agency, the Kansas City Chiefs have landed another former member of the San Francisco 49ers. According to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report, the Chiefs have agreed to sign running back Elijah Mitchell to a one-year deal worth up to $3.5 million.

After being drafted in the sixth round of Louisiana in 2021, Mitchell quickly burst onto the scene, leading the 49ers in rushing as a rookie with 963 yards on the ground over 10 starts.

In four seasons with the 49ers, Mitchell suffered a flurry of different injuries, including missing all of the 2024 season due to a hamstring injury. Mitchell racked up 1523 yards rushing and nine touchdowns in four years in San Francisco.
