KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A Frozen Four veteran will be in attendance when Western Michigan faces off against Denver Thursday.
Former NHL player Mike Knuble is no stranger to the Frozen Four. He played in three of them with the University of Michigan in 1992, 1993 and 1995. Now he’s back to watch his son Cam Knuble play for the Broncos.
“There’s only four teams left playing, at this point in the whole country. So, it’s pretty satisfying to get to this point,” Mike Knuble told News 8.
“It’s really exciting. We have a ton of energy. It’s a really big honor to be here and be a part of the Frozen Four,” Cam Knuble added.
The Knuble’s aren’t just a hockey family. Cam Knuble says they love football, baseball, lacrosse and more. He remembered playing lacrosse with his dad, but not a “ton” of hockey.
But a “ton” is a relative term for the Knuble family.
“Obviously, there was a ton of hockey still. It was great to go to the rink with my dad and hangout with his teammates, do all that. Those guys were always incredible to me,” Cam Knuble said.
Having that space allowed him to grow his love for hockey on his own.
“He was home for dinner on Sunday, or a snack and we talked about it a little. But he’s in is own frame of mind … I probably wouldn’t tell him anything different than we’ve told him before. Work hard, have fun and if you get the chance to shoot the puck, shoot the puck,” Mike Knuble said.
“It would be great for them to see that, and it would also be incredible for the school. I feel really proud to represent Western Michigan on the national scale, and being born and raised in West Michigan, it’s an honor,” Cam Knuble said.
