Freddie Mercury’s secret daughter, 48, speaks out for first time

A forthcoming book focused on the life of Freddie Mercury is set to cause a stir in the entertainment industry, unveiling the existence of his hidden daughter. The Queen frontman fathered a child who was kept far from public scrutiny.

Only those closest to him, including his parents and sister, were aware of this secret. His bandmates and lifelong partner, Mary Austin, were also privy to this information.

The book, ‘Love, Freddie’, discloses how the child was inadvertently conceived during an affair with a close friend’s wife in 1976. Now aged 48, his daughter lives in Europe and works in the medical profession.

She is also a mother, making Freddie a posthumous grandfather. She has shared her explosive story with renowned rock biographer Lesley-Ann Jones.

She described growing up in a loving family, but always knowing that the iconic musician was her biological father. Before his death from pneumonia caused by Aids in 1991, Freddie left his daughter 17 volumes of his personal diaries, reports the Express.

These journals, kept secret for many years, have now been given to Jones and form the foundation of the book due to be published later this year.

It tells the story of a child unintentionally conceived during a brief romance. This revelation will undoubtedly shock Freddie’s fans, as there had never been any suggestion of a secret child.

Freddie Mercury’s romantic life was as colourful as his stage persona, with relationships that transcended gender boundaries, including his bond with Mary Austin. They met during their youth, a 19 year old Mary and Freddie at 24, before he ascended into the limelight.

Despite the end of their romantic involvement following Freddie’s declaration of his sexuality, he and Mary maintained an unbreakable connection. Mary even had two sons from a subsequent relationship, yet still held a profound place in Freddie’s life until his demise.

During the flamboyant ’80s, Freddie briefly romanced Austrian actress Barbara Valentin and allegedly sired a child with another woman, veiled in mystery.

The daughter, known publicly as B, added an emotional dimension to the legend by writing in a book: “Freddie Mercury was and is my father. We had a very close and loving relationship from the moment I was born and throughout the final 15 years of his life.”

In her missive, she reflected on their unique bond: “He adored me and was devoted to me. The circumstances of my birth may seem, by most people’s standards, unusual and even outrageous.”

Continuing, she expressed, “That should come as no surprise. It never detracted from his commitment to love and look after me. He cherished me like a treasured possession,” as uncovered by the Daily Mail.

Jones, the author approached by B three years prior, initially regarded the story with caution but has since become convinced of its truth, stating, “My instinct was to doubt everything, but I am absolutely sure she is not a fantasist,”.

Exploring the financial aspect, Jones highlighted that B hasn’t pursued monetary benefit or public recognition, pointing out that Freddie’s last testament did not mention B. Instead, her needs were discreetly addressed through a legal arrangement to preserve confidentiality.

Jones disclosed to the media a shocking revelation: “His only child was conceived accidentally with the wife of one of his closest friends, while his friend was away on an extended business trip. For the Roman Catholic mother, abortion was out of the question,”.

She spoke highly of Freddie as a “hands-on devoted dad” and proclaimed that he saw fatherhood as the “greatest blessing of his life”. Jones went on to explain their unconventional living situation where B would stay with her mother and stepfather, but Freddie had his own room at their home.

The three of them raised B together, with Freddie making it a point to communicate with his daughter every day when he was on tour.

In a letter included in the book, B articulated her motives for revealing her story: “After more than three decades of lies, speculation and distortion, it is time to let Freddie speak.”

She recognised the silence of those who were aware of her existence, crediting their discretion to their devotion to Freddie: “Those who have been aware of my existence kept his greatest secret out of loyalty to Freddie. That I choose to reveal myself in my own midlife is my decision and mine alone.”
