SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – After spending all day Sunday helping fight a 500 acre wildfire in Polk County, a group of Spartanburg County firemen are now bound for the South Carolina coast to aid in the fight against more wildfires there.
Boiling Springs Fire Department in Spartanburg County took to social media late Sunday night with well wishes for four firefighters headed to Horry County to aid those fighting wildfires which have burned roughly 2,000 acres over the weekend.
The trip comes after the group spent their Sunday helping to contain the Melrose Fire in Polk County, which has forced people out of their homes and, as of Sunday night, was only 30% contained.
“The same group of firefighters spent Sunday in Tryon assisting with fire containment efforts and will now travel to the Myrtle Beach area for 48 hours to provide coverage and aid,” the department said in a Facebook post. “Pictured are firefighters S. King, L. Scruggs, Engineer H. Israel, and Captain T. Owens. We thank everyone who has stepped up to provide local and statewide support and coverage.”
The Parker Fire District in Greenville County also took to social media to provide a sendoff for five firefighters who left Sunday afternoon for Horry County.
Captain Zachary Crutchfield, Lt. Chris Vaughn, engineer Noah Wilson and firefighters Quinn Tucker and Tristan Tuttle were dispatched Sunday to help fight the Myrtle Beach fires.
“We are blessed to have these men represent Parker District and provide needed help to those in need,” the department said in a Facebook post.
According to the South Carolina Forestry Service website, the Covington Drive fire in Horry County is roughly 1,600 acres in size and 0% contained. You can read live updates on the fire and local responses to the fire by clicking here.
