Game 9 Preview: Tigers look to sweep Chicago White Sox in Detroit on Sunday

The Detroit Tigers opened up the home portion of the 2025 campaign with a pair of wins over the visiting Chicago White Sox. On Friday, the home team earned a 7-4 win while putting up the same crooked number the following afternoon in a 7-2 victory.

Those two triumphs, plus the pair they earned against the series win at the Seattle Mariners, puts AJ Hinch’s club back at the .500 mark and atop the American Central Division standings. Not a bad rebound after opening the season with a three-game sweep at the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The fact of the matter is that the Tigers have battled in every inning of every game so far, and things are looking pretty good for the Olde English D. On Sunday afternoon, they have a chance to go for the kill in sweeping the Sox inside Comerica Park while giving Detroit its first winning record of the year.

Rookie Jackson Jobe will take the mound for the Bengals, while 14-year veteran Martín Pérez will toe the rubber for the ChiSox. Here is a look at how they match up.

JOBE

PÉREZ

Jobe’s 2025 MLB debut and first big league start did not go as smoothly as most had hoped, with the 22-year-old getting roughed up for three runs on three hits and four walks, plus a pair of dingers, while striking out three. Fortunately, the Tigers put up a six-spot in the opening inning and ultimately prevailed over the Seattle Mariners, 9-6.

Pérez, on the other hand, came out on fire against the Minnesota Twins, shutting them down for six hitless frames — but three walks allowed — while mowing down nine batters. Predictably, the ChiSox came away with the victory that day, a 9-0 spanking, to earn their second win of the season.
