Guardians acquire right-hander from Seattle in trade for cash considerations

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Guardians announced a trade prior to Tuesday’s home opener against Chicago. Cleveland has acquired right-handed reliever Cody Bolton from Seattle in exchange for cash considerations.

Bolton, 26, has appeared in 33 big league games for Pittsburgh and the Mariners since 2023. He was optioned to Triple-A Columbus.

John Means, signed to a one-year deal with a team option for 2026 at the start of spring training, was moved to the 60-day injured list to make room for Bolton on Cleveland’s 40-man roster. Means is currently recovering from elbow surgery.

Bolton was designated for assignment by the Mariners on April 5 while on the roster of the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers. Last year, he managed a 3.07 ERA in the minors in 33 appearances with 33 strikeouts in 29 1/3 innings.

A sixth-round selection of the Pirates in the 2017 draft, Bolton had his contract purchased by the Mariners following the 2023 campaign.
