Listen, lesbians, Hannah Einbinder gets it. She’s seen the fanfics, the memes, and the viral edits of her Hacks character Ava and Ava’s hot mommy MILF boss (my words), Deborah Vance. She knows what we want — to see them kiss — and she wants it, too.

Earlier this week, Einbinder, who is currently promoting season four of the beloved Max comedy, went on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to talk all things Hacks, gay sex, and Ava’s season three fuck-ass bob.

Over the course of the last three seasons, fans of the show have tuned in to watch what has quickly become one of the best comedies on TV, giving sapphics the messy, chaotic, queer representation they need in Ava — and to embrace their devastating and perhaps unrealistic crushes on older women in the form of Jean Smart’s Deborah. We have watched Ava go from Deborah’s insecure and unwilling assistant to her best friend to her rival, and everything in between.

After spending a solid chunk of their interview discussing gay sex (yes, really), the late-night host asks Einbinder the question we’ve all been waiting for: Are Deborah and Ava going to finally kiss?

“A lot of your fans want the two of you [Ava and Deborah] to get together, is that going to happen?” Colbert asked — and the crowd went wild.

“Girls, you know I want what you want,” Einbinder responds, looking directly into the camera. “I have heard you, O.K., and we want the same things. And I have relayed your message to the powers that be. But I don’t think it’s gonna happen, and that’s the truth.”

Sigh. Am I devastated? Slightly. Am I surprised? Not really. Am I still going to root for an Ava and Deborah showmance? Absolutely.
