Hilliard man, Ohio State band alum triumphs on Jeopardy! When is he on next?

Steven Hoying, an attorney from Hilliard, won the April 17 episode of Jeopardy! defeating a six-time champion and ending their winning streak.

Hoying, who works at Porter Wright Morris & Arthur LLP and is an Ohio State Marching Band alumnus, took on Philadelphia physics professor Michelle Dolinski and Mississippi law student Andrew Hayes, a six-time champion on a winning streak that started April 9.

His appearance did not go unnoticed by the city of Hilliard, which shouted him out on its Facebook page the evening of April 17.

Hoying started out trailing Hayes but managed to pull ahead with a $3,000 Daily Double wager and consistent clue answering. He ended the first round of the game with $8,200. Hayes had $6,000 and Dolinski had $2,600, according to J! Archive, a Jeopardy! fan site.

Hoying maintained his lead throughout the game’s second round, winning $11,000 in two Daily Double clues he answered correctly. By the end of the round, he had $29,200, leading Hayes by over $20,000 and Dolinski by over $15,000.

He ended the game by answering the Final Jeopardy! clue correctly, winning an extra $203 from the small amount he wagered.

The final scores were Hoying with $29,403, Hayes with $13,410 and Dolinski with $8,400.

He will take on a fellow Ohioan, Cuyahoga Falls graduate student Rachael Gray and Illinois undergraduate student Liam Starnes in the upcoming April 18 episode, according to the game show’s website.

The Ohio State Marching Band also congratulated Hoying on his victory on its Facebook page shortly after his win aired.
