CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) — Hundreds of flights were canceled and delayed at Charlotte Douglas International Airport on Monday due to storms moving across the Carolinas.
As of 11:05 p.m. on Monday, March 31, more than 140 flights were canceled and more than 668 were delayed, according to FlightAware, a flight-tracking website.
FlightAware also reports that all inbound flights — planes headed to the Charlotte airport — were being “held at their origin” until at least 5:15 p.m. on Monday. That hold was initially expected to expire at 4:15 p.m.
Airport officials did not immediately respond to our request for comment.

Severe storms possible in Carolinas
A line of storms began approaching Charlotte early Monday morning. After diminishing, the risk of severe weather was expected to rise during the afternoon and evening hours.
The Charlotte Metro was labeled at “Level 3″ on a scale of 1-5 for severe weather risk. Strong winds, isolated tornadoes, and hail were all possible in the region.
